Somatic Therapy Training in India: What to Know Before You Book

Considering somatic therapy training in India? What to check before booking, visa and travel basics, and what residential training in Goa actually includes.

India has drawn people to body-based training for decades – yoga first, and now somatic work, which fits the country’s long habit of treating body and mind as one conversation. If you are considering a somatic training in India, here is what to know before you book: where to go, what to check, and how the practical side works.

Why India, and why Goa in particular

Goa’s winter season, roughly November to March, has become an international hub for yoga and somatic trainings: warm weather, a mature wellness scene, affordable living, and an easy international crowd. Villages like Arambol in North Goa host trainings from dozens of schools each season, which means you are learning inside a living ecosystem of practice – ecstatic dance, sound healing, meditation and movement happening around you rather than a hotel conference room.

What to check before you book

  • The venue. Ask for the exact location and photos of the practice space. “Goa” covers everything from a seafront shala to a room above a shop.
  • What is included. Residential trainings vary wildly: some prices are tuition only, others include a room and all meals. Compare totals, not headline numbers.
  • Group size. Somatic work needs personal attention. Ask how many participants share the training.
  • Who teaches. Names, backgrounds, and whether the people on the website are the people in the room.
  • Scope of the certificate. What does it prepare you to do, and what does it not? A good school answers this in plain words.

The practical side

  • Visas. Most nationalities need a visa for India; many can apply online for an e-visa. Rules change, so check the current requirements for your passport well before booking flights.
  • Getting there. Goa has two airports: GOI (Dabolim) and GOX (Mopa, closer to North Goa). We arrange airport transfers for €25 each way.
  • When to arrive. Flights land at all hours, so arrive the day before your training starts – with us, that extra night is free.
  • Season. Residential trainings cluster in the winter months. Parimukti’s Goa season runs monthly cohorts from November 2026 to March 2027; in January we also open a Sri Lanka season for those who prefer the island.

What training with Parimukti in Goa looks like

Our 12-day Somatic Facilitator Training runs at our own seafront venue in Arambol: the shala faces the beach, groups are deliberately small (eight residential places), and the price includes your room, breakfast, lunch and dinner on all 12 days, a spa treatment, excursions and the evenings that make Goa Goa – ecstatic dance and sound healing included. You practise facilitation daily, from day one, with feedback, and graduate through a practical assessment as a Certified Parimukti Somatic Therapist.

Is India the right choice for everyone?

Honestly, no. A residential training in India means a long flight for most people, a different climate, food your stomach may need a day to negotiate with, and twelve days fully away from your life. For many people that distance is exactly the point – nothing supports twelve days of inner work like being unreachable by your ordinary routine. But if travel, budget or schedule make a residential season unrealistic right now, that is not a failure of commitment; it is what the live online certification exists for. The same certificate, four weekends, from your own home.

Combining training with travel

Many participants add days on either side: a few quiet days on the beach before the training to land and shake off the flight, or time afterwards to let things settle before heading home. Arambol in season is a good place to do nothing particularly quickly. If you plan to explore India further, build that time in deliberately rather than squeezing the training between itineraries – this work asks for a little space around it.

Current dates and prices are always on the Dates and Prices page. If India calls but the timing does not, the live online certification starts a new cohort every month. And if you want a feel for the work first, start with the free somatic exercises – the beach will still be there when you are ready.
