Somatic Database Part 1 - book cover

Understanding shame is one thing. Knowing what to practise is another.

Or guilt. Or grief. Or the fear that sits in your chest before a difficult day. These states live in the body – and the body is where you train them.

Somatic Database Part One – 100 illustrated somatic exercises for the eight heaviest states of mind. For your own practice, and for guiding others through theirs.

Go beyond understanding. Build a practice.

You know the ones. Shame that drops your eyes and tightens your throat. Guilt that sits like a stone behind the ribs. Apathy that flattens a whole week. Grief that arrives in waves. Fear that braces your shoulders before anything has even happened. Desire that pulls you off centre. Anger that burns through your patience with the people you love. Pride that will not let you soften.

You can understand these patterns perfectly and still be ruled by them. You can name them, analyse them, talk about them for years – and feel them arrive just the same. Because insight is not the same as change.

These states are not only thoughts. They are bodily events: postures, breaths, tensions, a whole-body pattern. And a pattern that lives in the body can be met in the body.

A map of the heavy states – and a training to move through them

Somatic Database Part One is a 172-page illustrated guide to the eight heavy states of consciousness and how they live in your body. Across 16 chapters, every state is explored twice: as an inner feeling, and as a view of life. Each chapter gives you a clear map – its bodily sensations, its causes, its effects, and the way through it.

Then you train. 100 exercises, each one fully illustrated and explained step by step. Somatic practices, breath work and contemplative exercises. No substances, no rituals. Practice only.

What this makes possible

  • Meet a heavy state with a practice instead of a struggle. Each state has its own exercises – you have a practical place to start.
  • Catch a state early, in the body, before it runs your day. The chapter maps teach you its sensations and its shape.
  • Guide others with confidence. Every exercise carries method notes – what to do, why, and when – so a teacher understands the work, not just the steps.
  • Keep a real written practice. The Journal turns reflection into pages; the Companion turns practice into a record you can look back on.
