What Does Somatic Training Cost? A Straight Comparison

Somatic training costs compared: Somatic Experiencing tuition, facilitator certifications and residential immersions, plus the hidden extras to ask about first.

Somatic training costs anywhere from a few hundred euros to well over ten thousand – and both ends of that range can be the right price, depending on what the training actually is. Here is a straight look at what the main options cost, what drives the differences, and the extras that quietly double the bill if you do not ask about them early.

What the main paths cost

Multi-year professional programmes

The best-known example is Somatic Experiencing. Somatic Experiencing International publishes US tuition of about $1,130 to $1,650 per module, across eight modules over roughly three years – so tuition alone lands around ten thousand US dollars. On top of that, the programme requires personal sessions and case consultation hours, paid separately to approved providers. The Ireland SE programme, for comparison, lists total tuition of GBP 6,000 to 7,400 plus around GBP 750 in personal sessions.

These programmes are the long, clinical-leaning route, and they are priced like it.

Short facilitator certifications

Intensive facilitator trainings – days to weeks rather than years – cost far less, typically in the hundreds to low thousands of euros. Parimukti’s own pricing is public on the Dates and Prices page: the live online certification is €699 early bird or €899 standard (payable in three instalments), and the 12-day Goa residential is €1,799 with a shared room or €2,390 with a private hotel room – and that includes accommodation and all meals for all 12 days, which changes the comparison more than any other line item.

Weekend courses and recorded programmes

At the cheapest end sit weekend workshops and self-paced video courses. They can be a genuine taster, but check what you are actually buying: a certificate of watching videos is not the same object as a certificate of assessed practice.

What actually drives the price

  • Length and contact hours. Three years of modules simply cost more to deliver than 12 days.
  • Live versus recorded. Live teaching, supervised practice and real feedback are the expensive parts – and also the valuable parts.
  • Residential versus non-residential. A residential price that includes a room and three meals a day is not comparable to a tuition-only price. Always normalise for this.
  • Extras. Multi-year programmes often add required personal sessions, supervision or consultation hours, each billed separately. Ask for the total cost of completion, not the cost of module one.
  • Assessment and certification fees. Some schools charge separately for assessment, certification or annual registration.

The questions that prevent expensive surprises

  • What is the total cost from day one to certificate, including every required extra?
  • Is accommodation included? Meals? Airport transfers?
  • Is the deposit refundable or transferable if my plans change?
  • Are there instalments, and do they change the price?
  • Will I pay anything extra for assessment, materials or the certificate itself?

For the record, our answers: the €300 reservation payment is part of the total and transferable to another person or a future Parimukti training; Goa prices include the room and all meals; the online training offers three instalments; and there are no separate assessment or certificate fees.

A more useful number than price

Cost per supervised practice hour. A €900 training where you spend most of the time being watched while you facilitate – and corrected – can be worth more than a €3,000 training of polished videos. When two options look far apart on price, ask both schools the same question: how many hours will I personally practise guiding someone, with feedback? The school that answers precisely is usually the one to trust.

What about free somatic training?

Free courses and free “certifications” exist, and they are fine for one thing: finding out whether this work interests you at all. What they cannot give you is the part that makes a practitioner – supervised practice with feedback from someone who watches you guide a real person. Treat free material as the trailer, not the film. Our own free somatic exercises are exactly that: a genuine starting point, not a training.

Payment plans and funding

Many schools offer instalments – our online training splits into three payments, for example. Some multi-year programmes run scholarship or pro bono tracks: Ireland’s SE programme offers a reduced fee in exchange for community hours. If cost is the thing between you and a training, say so when you apply. Schools that want serious students usually have more flexibility than their websites admit.
