In 2014 I travelled to Goa to do a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training where I met Merel. I immediately became fond of her. She was very knowledgable about yoga and how it specifically affects the body. Her great personality made me want to know more about every subject and work hard to understand it fully. I was sad to leave at the end of the course.
This winter I was surprised with an email saying she was running a course for Yoga Anatomy. I was bummed out thinking I could not afford to take time off work to head back to India, as tempting as it was…but she was offering the course online as well! A friend paid for the course for my birthday (the best present ever) and we began at the beginning of the spring. Each week Merel lectured about a specific topic via YouTube and assigned homework.
At the end of the week we met on Skype to discuss the homework and the lecture. I was so happy to have Merel share more of her knowledge with me. Every single lesson we had I have incorporated into my own yoga teaching. I am sure my classes have benefitted from everything Merel has passed along.
Yoga anatomy is an important part of teaching and learning about yoga. I am more confident in my own alignment as well as spotting and correcting my students. I have a better understanding of how the body works especially in asana and pranayama. I would recommend anyone interested in deepening their knowledge of yoga to take a course with Merel.
