Can you train in somatic work online – really train, not just watch videos? Yes, with one non-negotiable condition: it has to be live. The whole craft of somatic facilitation is reading and guiding another person’s nervous system, and that skill only grows in supervised, real-time practice. A recorded course can teach you about the work; a live online training can actually teach you the work.
What “online somatic training” can mean
- Self-paced video courses. Flexible and cheap, but you are learning content, not facilitation. Fine as a taster; not a professional training.
- Live online trainings. Scheduled sessions over video, in small groups, where you practise guiding real people and get corrected while you do it. This is the format that can genuinely certify skill.
- Hybrid. Theory online, practice intensives in person. A good middle path when a school offers it.
What live online training looks like with Parimukti
Our online Somatic Facilitator Certification runs live over four weekends: roughly two hours of theory and four hours of guided practice each day, in breakout pairs and small groups, with trainers watching and giving feedback from day one. It ends with a practical assessment, and graduates receive the same certificate as our residential training – a certificate of professional training in the Parimukti Method. Tuition is €699 early bird or €899 standard, payable in three instalments, and every online graduate holds a permanent seat in future online cohorts – you can repeat the training free, forever.
Online versus residential: an honest comparison
- Choose online if travel, budget or schedule make 12 days away unrealistic; you learn well in your own space; or you want to spread the training across a month instead of taking leave.
- Choose the Goa residential if you want full immersion – twelve days where the training is your whole life, surrounded by sea, community and the ecosystem of practice that Arambol in season provides. Depth through removal has a magic no video call fully replicates.
- Either way you get the same method, the same certificate, and the same alumni access. The difference is the container, not the credential.
How to vet any online somatic training
- How many hours are live, and how many are you personally practising with feedback?
- How big are the practice groups, and who watches them?
- How are you assessed – attendance, or demonstrated skill?
- Can you talk to a graduate before paying?
A school that answers these crisply is usually one whose training deserves your weekends. The full school-vetting checklist is in our guide to choosing a somatic training.
“But can you really feel it through a screen?”
The sceptical question everyone asks – and then stops asking after the first weekend. Breakout pairs work surprisingly well online: you guide a real partner, in real time, while a trainer drops into your room to watch and coach. Some things are even easier online – your own familiar space, no performance anxiety of a studio, and the camera framing keeps everyone close. What does not transmit through a screen is the beach, the shared meals and the 7am practice with waves in the background. That is the honest trade, and why both formats exist.
Getting the most out of a live online training
Online intensives reward a little preparation. Clear a private room where you can move, lie down and make sound without an audience; a yoga mat’s worth of floor is enough. Position your camera so your trainer can see your whole body during practice – feedback on what they cannot see is guesswork. Treat the weekends as retreat time: tell your household, silence the phone, keep the evenings quiet. And do the between-session practice, short as it is – the trainees who graduate feeling ready are almost always the ones who practised on the ordinary weekdays in between.
Start tonight, if you like
If you want to feel the territory before committing to any training, the free somatic exercises are the gentlest first step – ten quiet minutes that will tell you whether this work speaks to you.
