Philosophy of Parimukti 300 Hours Yoga Teacher Training
In the advanced training, we proceed to explore who we are by reaching out to the yoga philosophy, and yin philosophy, to look at ourselves with new eyes. We will challenge you to question your beliefs and perspectives and from how that reflects in your teaching. We will explore dynamic and restorative styles more in-depth by learning advanced hands-on adjustment techniques by studying yin yoga, restorative yoga and yoga Nidra.
If you were most comfortable teaching one style of class only, in this training we are opening up the possibilities. You will deepen your understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the body, which you will learn to apply practically in a Yin and Yang Class. You’ll study and understand the differences of yoga with a yang character (more focus on alignment or flow) and yoga with a yin character (yin and restorative poses and practise. (Advanced) asanas, breath awareness, pranayamas, kriyas (cleansing techniques), mantras and meditation, will be presented, deepened and practised within the course.
Besides the physical practice, you will explore the energetic, emotional and mental aspects of a yoga practice. Therefore, you’ll study the Patanjali Yoga Sutras in depth, and you will be introduced to Daoist aspects of yin yoga which will be integrated into your life and teaching. In this training, we acknowledge the unique individuality of bodily and mental constitution. The 300 Hours Yoga Teacher Training supports you in your exploration of the endless possibilities of life!
During this 6 weeks intensive training, you will immerse yourself fully into the process of yoga, experiencing directly what it is like to live and practice full-time. You will explore yoga with a yang character and yoga with a yin character. All aspects of yoga practice like kriyas (cleansing techniques), asana, breath awareness, pranayamas, mantra and meditation will be covered by the program, which is further divided into the following themes:
ASANA (LED & SELF-PRACTISE) – Your practice is your foundation, your real teacher. In the training, you will commit to practicing daily asana, pranayama, and meditation. What you practice, you will understand. What you understand, you will be able to teach. Therefore you’ll be encouraged to, as a group, teach a self designed sequence in the morning/afternoon sessions, which gives you a deeper insight into your understanding and how that translates into teaching. Experimenting and reflecting on both your personal meditation, yoga practice and teachings will be continuously encouraged.
YANG PRACTISE – In these teachings, you’ll deepen your knowledge of a yang practise, which is mainly focused on, on the one hand, deepening your skill of individual hands-on adjustments and, on the other hand, to teaching a more flow class. The yang part of the training is focused in the following modules:
Module 1: The art of adjusting and sequencing
In this module you’ll learn how to do hands-on adjustment using props like blocks, belts, and cushions. Central to our teaching is to look at the students and understanding their body. Your role as a teacher is to go on an explorative journey together. Do not assume anything but watch, ask, experiment, and learn. You will be able to assist and encourage your students in a safe and effective way. We will practice and gain confidence with offering effective hands-on adjustments to help your students deepen their practice and embody the fullest expression of their yoga poses. As in our 200 Hours Yoga Teacher Training we encourage you to design creative sequences. Your input will come from the led classes as well as a number of classes dedicated to creative sequencing.
Module 2: The art of energetic balancing
In this training we encourage you to explore different ways of finding the center in your body through energetic awareness and alignment. From the system of yoga the result should always be that we create length and space in the body. When you find the center in the body, your mind will follow along. To achieve this we use muscle energy and core stability to protect the joints.
Also, we will continue exploring several models of experiencing the physical body such as the seven chakras, the five elements, the three gunas and the five layers, or koshas. Diving deeper into study and integration on this level is an opportunity for you to gain access to deeper layers of your own practice and to develop refined teaching skills. Guidelines are offered for how to integrate this in any of your classes.
YIN PRACTISE – In these teachings, you’ll deepen your knowledge of a yin practise, which is mainly focused on relaxing the muscles. The yin part of the training is divided in the following modules:
Module 3: Yin Yoga
Yin yoga is a more quiet practice which taps into and fosters our more inwards directed (yin) energy. Thus it is a nice addition to a more dynamic yoga style of practice, which is characterized by its more muscle strengthen dynamic (yang) energy. While we improve our flexibility we stimulate the circulation of blood and energy that flows through the fascia. We practice mindfulness principles and stillness. This nurtures, balances and heals our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Also, a yin practice can help you cultivate more yin qualities in your daily life, enhancing the flow of life and becoming more skilful in ‘accepting what is’ and the ‘art of letting go.’
In this module you will discover what Yin Yoga is all about, deepen your practice and gain the knowledge to share it. We will take you on a journey through all the Daoist elements. You will learn all about the ancient wisdom of the main acupuncture meridians and chi flow in the body. We will give you insight in each element and the correlating acupuncture meridians and organs. Find out more about their subconscious value and the applied body acupressure points and yin yoga poses to help balance those.
We explain you ways to emotional healing and the releasing of energetic blockages in the asana. As we put our bodies in certain positions different meridian energy streams get stimulated and we activate our body’s own healing powers.
We will explore all regular yin poses and additional modifications, learn their function and effect on our body, mind and soul and develop skills to teach and to modify each posture to fit and support any individual student. You will practice sequencing and the power of visualisation & Dan Tien breath, as well as how to lead a yin yoga class with ambience and inspiration.
Module 4: Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga is becoming increasingly popular, amongst beginner as well as advanced yoga students, as a way to experience true relaxation. As stress and tension are released, healing and upliftment are promoted in body and mind.
In this module you will explore how to sequence routines and give instruction on breathing, alignment, cautions and contraindications. You will appreciate the importance of knowing how to assist and adjust your students both carefully and efficiently. In restorative yoga we use a wide range of props like bolsters, pillows, blankets, chairs, straps and blocks to help your students achieve perfect poses without any stress or strain. The main purpose of props is to provide support for your body when you are stretching or relaxing. You’ll learn to use the right size of props for specific poses.
We guide you to become familiar with modifications and variations that focus on specific physical and mental tensions needed for students with special conditions.
PRANAYAMA – You will continue/start a personal practice of pranayama to incorporate into your daily practice. At the end of the program you will have integrated these practices and, thus, will be able to incorporate different types of pranayamas into your teaching.
KRIYA – Kriyas are cleansing and purification practices. You will learn a selection of advanced, powerful kriya techniques (such as Uddiyana kriya, Nauli, Agni Sara), and incorporate them into your daily practice routine.
MEDITATION – We will continue experiencing different meditation techniques like silent sitting, movement meditations, heart meditations and buddhist meditations. You will deepen your understanding of what meditation is, and understand how that translates into your daily life. Meditation from the point of yoga philosophy as well as chakra meditation to approach different energy channels (Nadis).
We invite you to be in silence one day a week. It is a powerful tool to go beyond the surface – beyond names and forms, social, cultural or psychological boundaries. You will receive teachings and practices silently, allowing you observe more closely your thoughts, habits, and patterns. Your teachers will support you in your silence, and the teachings itself will empower you with strength to go deeper within the process of yoga.
ENERGETIC ANATOMY – You will study the subtle energetic bodies and you will learn and experience how the energy in the body works, and how the energy body and mind are intimately connected.
PHYSICAL ANATOMY – In this module you learn about the functional anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, the muscular system, and connective tissue to understand the effect of a yang and yin yoga practice.
ART OF TEACHING AND ADJUSTING – To be able to teach creative and safe Yin and/or Yang yoga classes, each training block will include intensive practices; involving teaching, sequencing, adjusting and the use of props. The progress of your practice will be supported with guidance.
PHILOSOPHY – You will be challenged to find your own understanding of the Patanjali Yoga Sutras, by studying them in depth. We gain deeper insight of the text and ourselves by sharing personal findings , discoveries and relate the philosophy to our lives.
